Student Appeals

A graduate student who is seeking a time extension for expired courses, academic amnesty or has been denied admission, readmission, or further continuance in the Graduate School, or a graduate degree program, may appeal the decision to the ULM Graduate Council.

The following supportive information must be provided by the student when preparing an appeal:

1. Letter of Appeal that builds a case for consideration, or reason for exception. Include your current email address in all correspondence.

2. Three signed letters of support on official letterhead or sent from a professional business e-mail account, from those who can attest to the student鈥檚 scholarly ability and potential.

    • Each letter must include a date, address, relationship to the student (course instructor, employer, co-worker, mentor, member of your faith community) and length of relationship to the student. Letters from family members are not permitted.
    • For students appealing the denial of continuance or readmittance into a program, one of the three letters of support, must come from the graduate program from which they were denied continuance.听
    • Letters of support are not accepted from students.听 The letters听should be sent directly to the graduate school by the person providing the letter of support to听gradcouncil@ulm.edu.听

3. Supporting documentation, or other evidence, which enhances or supports the student's appeal.


All appeals should be submitted to: gradcouncil@ulm.edu. Appeals will be reviewed when all the materials listed above have been received.听 The Graduate Council agenda closes 7 days prior to the meeting date. Student appeals must be complete 7 days prior to the meeting to be posted to the Council's agenda.听

*Note for Students who successfully appeal for continuance:
Those students will be granted 鈥済ood standing鈥� status and will not need to appeal each semester, even if their GPA remains below 3.0, as long as they are making academic progress in completing their graduate degree. If a student earns a grade of 鈥淒鈥� or 鈥淔鈥�, however, the student must submit another appeal for continuance. Students who earn a grade of "C" must not exceed their threshold for allowable "C" grades, and must show academic progress.
