Maintaining Academic Scholarships
Academic Scholarship Maintenance Criteria
- Earn a minimum of 24 credit hours during each academic year, defined as all terms
from Fall through Summer within an academic year (August through July).
- Enroll in a minimum of at least 12 credit hours by the 15th class day each Fall and
Spring semester.
- Maintain full-time, continuous enrollment (Fall and Spring semesters).
- First-Time Freshmen may use 6 hours of Dual Enrollment or Collegiate credit in order
to satisfy the 24-hour requirement during their freshmen year only. Full-time enrollment status (12 hours) is required for the Fall and Spring semesters
regardless of the amount of Dual Enrollment or Collegiate credits earned. (AP, credit
by exam, and CLEP credit cannot be used to satisfy the 24-hour requirement.)
- Courses taken at other institutions to satisfy the 24-hour credit requirements must have prior approval by the Scholarship Office.
- Maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average at the end of the Spring semester.
- Louisiana TOPS scholarship requirements are different from Academic Scholarships awarded
by ULM. Please visit the ULM Financial Aid site for more information.Ìý
Scholastic Transfer Award Maintenance Criteria
- Earn a minimum of 24 credit hours during each academic year, defined as all terms
from Fall through Summer within an academic year (August through July).
Note: students who enter ULM in January or later must earn at least 12 credits in
their first academic semester. Students who enter ULM in October or March (2nd 8-week
courses) will have scholarships prorated for the initial term.
- Enroll in a minimum of at least 12 credit hours by the 15th class day each Fall and
Spring semester.
- Maintain full-time, continuous enrollment (Fall and Spring semesters).
- Credits from Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, CLEP or credit by exam are NOT included in earned hours.
- Courses taken at other institutions to satisfy the 24-hour credit requirements must have prior approval by the Scholarship Office.
- Maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average at the end of the Spring semester.
Other Important Information
- A scholarship recipient who needs to drop a course should first meet with their academic advisor, the Financial Aid Office, and the
Scholarship Office before dropping.
- Students who switch from an on-campus degree to an online degree program after their first semester will have their scholarship reduced by 50%.Ìý
- Students are encouraged to enroll during Winter or Summer sessions to fulfill the
24-hour rule requirement, if necessary. Earning 24 credit hours each academic year
at the awarding institution is the responsibility of the student.
Appealing your ScholarshipÌý
- The academic records of all students receiving scholarships are reviewed by the Scholarship
Office once final grades are posted.Ìý
- It is the student's responsibility to ensure at the conclusion of each semester that
renewal requirements have been met.
- Students who do not meet the eligibility criteria will have their award cancelled
for all future terms.
- Students whose award is cancelled will receive a notification letter with a link to
the appeal form.
- All scholarship appeals are reviewed by the ULM Scholarship Committee. Students will
be notified of their decision within two weeks of their appeal submission.
Note: all scholarship appeal decisions made by the ULM Scholarship Committee are final.
