MONROE, La.-When the2026 Krewe of Janus Mardi Gras parade rolls through the Twin Cities on Saturday, February 7, King and Queen Clif and LyndaBergeron will preside over the festivities.TheBergeronsareproudULM alumniand lifetime members of the ULM Alumni Association.
Clif Bergeron grew up in New Orleans and has been around the traditions of MardiGrashis entire life. Lynda says that being named King ofJanus is a “bucket list item” that Clif has wanted to do since childhood. Clif began his college career atULM (then NLU) in 1972 and was a member of the Sound of Today marching band under legendary NLU/ULM bandleader Jack White.He earned hisbachelor’sinmusiceducation in 1976.Clif retired from the U.S. Navy after 26 years of service and spent 15 years in the government contracting sector, including time as Head of Curriculum and Development for the Royal Saudi Naval forces in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.He also earned anassociate’s degree ininformationsystems from ULM in 2013.
LyndaAldermanBergeron is a 2006 graduate of ULM with a bachelor’sdegreein accounting.Lynda returned to college to complete her degree at the age of 40. “It meant a lot to me to be able to finish it, and at that age, I appreciated the opportunity so much more. I was grateful that ULM could meet the needs of non-traditional students,” said Lynda.She currently works as an I.T. Project Manager at Lumen Technologies.
Lynda’s history with the Krewe of Janus goes back 18 years, when she was encouraged to join the Krewe by her mother, who was also a member. It wasatthe 2019 parade that Clif and Lynda met for the first time, introduced by mutual friends.Clif joined the Krewe shortly after,and the couple served as Duke and Duchess two years ago. Theywere elected as King and Queen by the members of the Krewe, serving for six months leading up to the 2026 parade.
“We’ve enjoyed it immensely,” said Lynda, of serving as King and Queen of Janus. “It’ssuch an honor to be trustedwithrepresentingthe Krewe and our areaand sharing our love of Mardi Gras. We both love Mardi Gras and all that itcontainsfor not only theKrewe, but also the community,” she added. “We have especially loved the visits we have made to the various elementary and middle schools in the parish to pass on our knowledge of Mardi Gras and the traditions of the season.”
As lifetime members of the ULM Alumni Association, theBergeronsrecognize the value of their ULM experiences and hopetohelpcontinue those traditions for students for many years. Clif serves as Treasurer of the newly re-established Sound of Today Alumni Cluband hasparticipatedas a member of the alumni band during homecoming. Lynda says it is important for alumni to continue to be involved in their university, noting the impact ofmeetingnon-traditional students where they are.Clif feels thatthe abilityto share hisknowledge andexperiences with the school that molded him is a gift he wishes to pass on to future Warhawks,andheloves interacting with students at events on campus.
“We try to stay connected as much as possible with theuniversity,and we are excited about the path ULM is on right now,” said Lynda.
