MONROE, LA – Amwins, a leading national specialty insurance provider, recently recommitted its giving to the ULM Risk Management and Insurance program, bringing its total donation commitment to $100,000 over 10 years.
A check presentation to commemorate the donation was held on September 17, 2024, in Hemphill Hall Room 208. Dr. Christine Berry, ULM First Lady and the Kim Sledge Chair of Risk Management and Insurance, organized the event. “We were honored to be joined by David Lavins, President of Amwins Access, who was joined by Tammy Culmone, Executive Vice President and Regional Leader at Amwins Group who has led the relationship with ULM for years,” said Dr. Berry.
The funds provided by Amwins will support student and faculty travel to visit companies and brokers in cities such as Dallas and Chicago. The funds will also support recruitment and marketing efforts, including a sponsorship with ULM Warhawk Athletics, as well as student scholarships and support of events like the ULM RMI Career Fair and Career Fair Reception.
“The most important aspect of the relationship with Amwins is the amazing internship and job opportunities it creates for our students,” said Berry. “What is so exciting is how many of our alumni who work at Amwins come back to intern and hire ULM RMI students when the alumni become team leaders. It’s also exciting to know that Amwins, the largest in the wholesale insurance space, considers ULM its top university to recruit students,” she continued.
According to Berry, Amwins has interned and hired more ULM RMI majors than any other company, exceeding over 100 students across the last 20 years.
“This gift is a testament to Amwins’ dedication to their people and commitment to education and to the value they place on the ULM Risk Management and Insurance program’s unique focus on the niche area of insurance that is ‘hard-to-place risks’ or ‘specialty risks,’” said Berry.
The $100,000 gift makes Amwins the first Pinnacle Lifetime Member of the Jeff Albright Insurance Society, an organization established several yearsago to support the growth and development of ULMRMI majors. One of the benefits of Pinnacle Lifetime Membership is a "room wrapping," which includes the addition of Amwins branded graphics installed in a classroom.“The Amwins graphic in Hemphill 208 will be viewed and appreciated by nearly every student who majors in business over the coming years,” said Berry.
